Ancestors - 22/100
- "Last year, on my birthday to be exact, I learned that I am a direct descendant of the Freedmen who founded my family's hometown. Since then I was put in contact with my great-aunt who started a non-profit to preserve that history and the African American history in our county. I've rapidly taken on the responsibility of the next generation who continues to pass on this knowledge of history. I always have this feeling of fullness but my emotions shift from excitement to anxiety often because of the importance of this work and the countless needs. However, I'm also reminded of what incredible things were accomplished by the ancestors in spite of and I regain confidence to press on." - Nicole Garder.
