After starting my recent project - 100 Days of Simple Lines - I wondered what was going to happen after 100 days?
Would I sell the work? Would I keep it and let it make a home in my studio? Was there an end goal? I never start projects thinking of gallery exposure, selling etc. I find that when I do it really impacts the creation process, especially in the very beginning stages when a project needs to breathe. I am nearing day 30 though, and as my project has evolved from narrating my own story, to also representing the experiences of others, I've begun to hash out the thought of displaying all 100 pieces as a collective. Enter...ArtPrize and The Light Gallery and Studio! ArtPrize is an open, independently organized international art competition which takes place for 19 days each fall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Art is exhibited throughout downtown Grand Rapids—museums, bars, public parks, restaurants, etc and artists and venues register for the competition, then find each other through an online connections process. It's free, open to the public and attracts over 500,000 visitors. I submitted my project and am so excited to announce my partnership with The Light Gallery and Studio! My 100 works will be displayed at The Light Gallery during ArtPrize, September 20 - October 8, 2017! Until then, keep up to date on the creation process via Instagram (#100daysofsimplelines), and I'll see you in Grand Rapids! A QUESTION FOR YOU... I am constantly in pursuit of stories and memories that I can capture and represent within this project. If you would like to share something with me to potentially be represented within this series please send me an email. xo
