Creating & Traveling

One of the most exciting things about working for yourself is being location independent. I can accomplish most of my freelance work from anywhere as long as I have a wifi signal, but my art work has been a different story. On countless international trips I've brought supplies in hopes of creating in planes, hotels and simply out of the studio.

All my efforts to create outside of my regular comfort zones have fallen flat, leaving me feeling a little chained to my environment in Chicago.

Two days ago, when my boyfriend suggested an impromptu road trip to the Grand Canyon, I knew this was my chance at redemption. My chance to stretch my boundaries, take in textures and patterns from a new source, and truly feel like I can create anywhere.

We are now 5.5 hours into our trip. I'm writing this from the hotspot in our Jeep and a little nervous about whether or not any art work will turn up from these travels.

All I know is the canvas is packed, paint pens are in my bag, and my blue heeler Indie is a little car sick. I'll be sharing bits and pieces of this journey with you here on my blog this week so stay tuned!
